Sentara Leigh that would keep her off of interstates during commuting hours. @Edgeman mentioned the new condos at the corner of Princess Anne and Kempsville/Witchduck Roads in VA Beach. They just finished construction on those units a couple of years ago. There are very nice single-family homes in the neighborhoods I mentioned.

I live in Carolanne Farms, which is an old neighborhood (most houses are about 50 years old now) but the homes are still in great shape and you can get more bang for your buck there. Get a nice two or three bedroom house and it's perfect for empty-nesters looking for long-term housing. I walk through the neighborhood just about every day and the further you get from the Norfolk city line, the further you get away from any bad element you may encounter (the Mayfair Apartments on S Newtown Road come to mind). As long as your two or three blocks from there, you're fine.
